The Key stage three curriculum at Boldon has been designed by subject specialists to provide a rich, engaging and challenging diet of English. Students in years seven, eight and nine will experience English modules covering Shakespeare, Poetry, Drama and Prose. As well as studying and engaging with world-class traditional and modern literature, they will also be taught key reading, writing and speaking/listening skills to help give them a distinct advantage in the outside world.
All key stage three units are designed to stretch, challenge and engage all learners. Whether it is through an appreciation of a wealth of exciting literary genres like Gothic, Science Fiction or Horror; or if it’s just learning how to write a review like Jeremy Clarkson – there is a wide variety to appeal to all learners.
Above all – all key stage 3 units of work are designed to equip the student
with the necessary skills needed to achieve and exceed their potential at GCSE. Opportunities are taken in all units to prepare students for the KS4 exam. KS3 pupils will sit a common assessment each half-term. This will be linked with the unit being studied and will inform teachers, parents and pupils of progress as well as allowing any intervention to take place, ensuring all learners continue to make good progress in English.
At Boldon we actively encourage Parents and Guardians to get involved with their child’s English work. Parents can access all resources and information on modules/Units of work studied on this site.
If there’s any information you’d like on English at Boldon school or would like to discuss your child’s progress, then please contact myself or Faculty Coordinator Miss Harvey- Alison.
