First Award in Engineering

First Award in Engineering

The BTEC Level 2 First Award in Engineering provides an engaging, robust, broad-based introduction to engineering. It provides underpinning knowledge, understanding and practical skills that reflect the needs of employers and higher and further education professionals. It presents knowledge, skills and understanding in a meaningful work-related context, to allow learners to understand theory and application.

The BTEC Level 2 First Award in Engineering has core and optional specialist units.

Learners must complete the two core units, and a choice of optional units to reach the BTEC First Award: The compulsory units are:

Unit 1 – The Engineered World

Unit 2 – Investigating an Engineering Productvic engineering large

Optional specialist units include:

Unit 3 – Health and Safety in Engineering

Unit 4 – Engineering Maintenance

Unit 5 – Engineering Materials

Unit 6 – Computer-aided Engineering

Unit 7 – Machining Techniques

Unit 8 -Electronic Circuit Design and Construction

Learning revolves around research tasks, project work), case studies, and presentations.

 Progression Opportunities

Each of the units provides learners with the opportunity to progress to level 3; this could be a full time course or part-time linked to an apprenticeship. Mathematics and Science are core building blocks for a career in engineering and for this reason feature extensively at Boldon School.
