Resistant Materials

Brief Description of the Course


This course gives students the opportunity to design and make artefacts in wood, metal and plastics. Other materials are not excluded, and the use of textiles, ceramics and electronics are encouraged. Each student is encouraged to acquire a body of knowledge applicable to solving practical and technological problems and develop a high level of skill. Practical work with a wide variety of materials is encouraged throughout the course.

Method of Assessment

Examination 40%

Coursework 60%

Note: The coursework project represents 40/50 hours of designing and making one usable and useful product.  The project is supported by a design folder and the practical outcome should demonstrate skill in making.
