Key Stage 4

The pastoral course at Key stage 4 is a three year programme. It starts with ‘Key Steps’ which is an accredited programme of study that focuses on the rights and responsibilities each of us has to everyday life in a community. It is personalised to each student and is a task and topic based book that allows each student to follow a programme that suits their needs.

In year 10 and 11 the student’s embark on a dual programme which incorporates two accredited courses: ASDAN Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE) and BTEC Workskills. These two courses, outlined below, cover a wide range of topics to create well rounded, creative individuals.

  • Issues and Beliefs

BTEC Workskills covers:

  • Searching for and Applying for a job
  • Interview skills and careers planning
  • Working with more experienced people
  • Work experience
  • Enterprise and starting your own business

In addition to this extra outside speakers are made available to discuss topics such as:

  • Sex education
  • Police and your community
  • School nurse
  • Fire brigade and taking risks
  • Making life choices
  • CEIAG and connexions

Obviously Exam revision is a key part within each curriculum and will be done around exam time each year. Revision clubs and after school; coursework classes will take place throughout the year in order to help our students achieve their potential.

Key Stage 4 ends in a blaze of glory with the year 11 Prom. It is a special event for those who attend and is a spectacular way to end your time at Boldon, bathed in success.
