Subject Intent:

Religious Education at Boldon school is taught by experienced subject specialists who are passionate about introducing students to this challenging and rewarding humanities subject. Religious education has so much to offer young people today, and can help them understand the community and world in which they live.

Younger students will be introduced to various world religions and learn ABOUT traditions, festivals, beliefs, and practices. At GCSE, students begin to learn FROM these religions, and how belief can directly impact upon people’s lives and practices. Key issues facing people today such as the morality of war, caring for our planet, animal rights, crime and punishment, the promotion of tolerance and harmony are part of our curriculum. We encourage our students to challenge one another and debate sometimes controversial and ethical issues in a safe environment.

Lessons are designed to allow students to begin to form and build upon their own views and opinions and to learn how to appreciate other’s views and ideas.  They provide a space and opportunity for self-reflection in a way no other academic subject allows. We are proud to be able to contribute to our student’s spiritual and moral development.

We strongly believe that learning about religious and non-religious beliefs can equip our young people with the tools and knowledge required for life in a modern day diverse society.
