Subject Intent:

At Boldon we strive to create an environment that encourages a love and understanding of sport in this current day and age. The PE Faculty strive to offer lots of different experiences and learning episodes to consolidate information and learn things through both a practical and theoretical aspect.

Sports Studies focuses on the contemporary issues facing sport and participants in the current climate, looking at the media and how that portrays sport. Pupils will learn about the barriers that face individuals taking part in sport and look at particular sportsmen and women this may have effected for example Tyson Fury or Marcus Rashford. What are the actual factors that may have stopped them taking part in sport but more importantly how they have overcome these.

Think of the technology used in the sports that we watch on TV- was that a penalty? Did the ref see? What can be used to help these refs? Technology is ever evolving every year in so many ways. As a sports student they will gain an insight into how important technology has become within the sports industry. Sport is not just about being the performer, there are so many different roles and responsibilities that will be investigated.

Taking a Sports Studies course is not all about the theory, our students obviously like to get involved in the practical side of things. As PE teachers we have a passion to improve the knowledge, tactics and evaluation skills in practical activities through both team and individual sports. These skills will reinforce what has been learnt in core PE lessons. We love to hear students discussing the strengths of each others performances, but also how they can improve each other.

Do we have the next Gareth Southgate? An inspirational leader who united the country through the Euros and lead his team to the final. We will develop the confidence and knowledge to plan and lead students own sessions. Gaining a greater understanding of the importance of communication, organisation and decision making. Local Primary schools often come in for festivals and learn to love our school through the leaders that they meet and the experiences that they have.
