an introduction into textiles looking at a variety of textiles techniques and processes.

Carry out a range of research in relation to their theme, look at a range of sources and then begin to create their own responses and ideas based on this.

Students will continue to develop their ideas through a range of textiles techniques and processes

Half Term 2

How to operate and use a sewing machine. They will understand the different parts and settings of a machine.

Students will continue to develop their ideas through a range of textiles techniques and processes.

Students will spend time working on their final outcome, refining ideas and making any finalisations to their sketchbook work

Half Term 3

Researching textiles designers. They will explore their ways of working and experiment with working in the style of them.

Students will continue to develop their ideas through a range of textiles techniques and processes

Students will receive a brief with a range of themes from the exam board. They will choose one to base their exam project on and begin carrying out a range of research into relation to this

Half Term 4

Develop ideas through moodboards, design ideas and experimentation before beginning their final product.

Students will spend time working on their final outcomes, refining ideas and making any finalisations to their sketchbook work.

Students will continue to develop their ideas through a range of textiles techniques and processes

Half Term 5

Follow a brief to design and produce a cushion using a range of textiles techniques

Students will begin their main project, looking at a new theme. They will carry out a range of research in relation to their theme.

Students will revisit and make finalisations to their body of work and main project before finishing year 11.

Half Term 6

Introduced to the theme of their body of work, carry out a range of research and begin to develop ideas.

Subject Intent:

Art and Textiles provide us with the opportunity to Explore, Interpret, Experiment and respond to the world around us in refreshing, innovative ways. We are given the freedom to express and communicate ideas and meaning, perhaps from perspectives that we have not previously explored, providing us with a unique platform unlike any other, to communicate to our audience.

Textile design is the creation of designs and products for woven, knitted, stitched, printed or decorative textiles that might have a functional or non-functional purpose.
