Core PE Key Stage 4

In year 10, our students’ focus is ‘Striving and Thriving to Achieve Your Personal Best’. Students have the opportunity to choose from four pathways: team sports, individual sports/activities, aesthetics/fitness activities and a ‘mash-up’ pathway which combines a range of sports and activities. Students who choose the team sports pathway will develop their ability to plan and implement advanced tactics and strategies through a range of team games. In addition, they will develop their ability to select, perform and adapt advanced skills in competitive situations.

Students who choose the aesthetics/fitness pathway will be assessed in their ability to explain the short and long term effects of various training methods as well as being able to perform and achieve personal best by fulfilling their potential.

Whichever pathway that our students decide to take, there will be a focus on demonstrating a respectful and positive working relationship with peers.

In year 11, similar to year 10, students choose their own pathway, however they choose the sports and activities within that pathway – ‘Creating a Curriculum for a Healthy and Active Future’. We promote lifelong participation in sport and physical activity therefore we allow students to have complete ownership of their curriculum for their final year in key stage four. Students will learn advanced problem-solving skills and establish strategies to overcome challenges in a range of sports/activities. Students will also be assessed on their engagement within their curriculum and their willingness to strive for their personal best. Students will become equipped to respond to certain situations in sports and activities with a scope to having a positive influence on the outcome of the situation and/or result.
