Curriculum Design

A broad and balanced curriculum is at the heart of Boldon School’s core values.

Our well-planned curriculum is progressive and tailored to meet the needs of learners and combat the social disadvantage experienced by a significant number of our students. The curriculum offers a range of pathways, which we believe will broaden rather than narrow the offer at different stages in a student’s journey through school.

We aim to remove barriers to learning for our students and support learning through a wide range of interventions. We provide curriculum breadth with teaching of design and technology, art, music and PE in Years 7 to 9 as a core offer. In Years 10 and 11 students can specialise in a broad range of academic and vocational subjects including Health and Social Care, Hair & Beauty, Travel & Tourism, Engineering and Computer Science. All students have the opportunity to study a modern foreign language.

Relationship & Sex Education is built and embedded within various subject areas, as well as being taught during pastoral lessons. In addition to specialised subject areas, students can experience a variety of enrichment opportunities built into the timetable, including finance, healthy body-healthy minds, careers and work related support.
