“Dance is an art, paint your dream and follow it.”
Dance at Boldon, is set in the curriculum to allow students to have the opportunity to express themselves and be creative. Students don’t have to be good at dance, that is what they are here to learn, but must have an interest in being expressive and have some of their own ideas and interpretations.
The dance team have a range of experiences, which have been enhanced by external practitioners who have complimented the team and extended and challenged our most able groups. Students will learn how to develop their own ideas, learn a range of skills and movements based on the basic key actions across a large range of styles.
Students will be expected to put effort into all rehearsals and be open to new styles that they may have not tried before. Like music videos? Then set pieces of commercial would be for you! Love the songs in Hairspray? Quite fancy yourself as a musical character? Would rather express your emotions in your movements through lyrical/ contemporary? This will all be investigated and explored. We have attended theatre trips to see various shows, visited London’s Pineapple Dance Studio to take part in a workshop with the dancers from Lion King as well participating in many Pulse performances at Customs House.
This all helps embed new choreography but also supports students to put their own spin on things with group pieces, solos and duos!
Dance is assessed in both written theory log books and evaluations as well as practical rehearsals and performances. These lessons are a time to enjoy, express yourself and dance like no one is watching.
