“Art without engineering is dreaming. Engineering without art is calculating.”
Engineering at Boldon develops and broadens the young minds of our students. We deliver life skills, engineering skills and workshops skills. All of these are carried out with an awareness of health and safety, and students work confidently as a part of a team. They will also become competent at using computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture. Our intent is to make our students fully rounded members of the real life workplace, equipping them with skills to be effective leaders. We have extensive and well equipped workshop facilities which allow students a glimpse of industry.
The main focus is on four areas of equal importance, which cover the:
- development of key engineering practical and technical skills, such as research, observation, measurement, making, using computer-aided design (CAD) and disassembly, where student take apart bike parts and tools.
- knowledge of key engineering sectors (mechanical, electrical/electronic and engineering design) and the interrelation of each in industry. Students are able to visit various industrial sites and gain valuable insight to the different sectors.
- knowledge of the stages involved in planning and implementing an engineering project, where students plan and manufacture given parts of a product.
- knowledge and skills involved in the investigation of solutions to engineering problems in response to a given brief, where students develop their own products.
