Art Student Views

Children and young people can offer unique perspectives on what it is like to be a student at their school. At Boldon School, we value the views of our students, involving them in decision-making, helping to shape our curriculum, as well as facilitating a sense of empowerment and inclusion.

We have a whole-school commitment to listening to the views, wishes and experiences of all children and young people. It means placing value on what children and young people tell school staff about their experiences. This is of particular importance across each subject area. We try to promote meaningful opportunities to share their experiences, views and hopes about their school. To build a safe environment, better relationships across the whole school community and empower students with the knowledge that what they say is valued and will be listened to and considered.

We are proud to hear their views about our curriculum, teachers and the learning environment we create:

I enjoy my art lessons because I like to be creative. I have enjoyed using oil pastels, water colour paints and fine liners. I have learnt all about aboriginal art and the aboriginal culture. I am looking forward to completing a bugs project and developing my drawing skills.

Maddison

Year 7

So far in art this year we have covered textiles, printing and photography. I really like art in secondary school because you learn more and get a chance to try more things. I can’t wait to learn more new techniques and develop new ideas.

Heidi

Year 8

In this project we have had the opportunity to experiment with a range of media such as watercolours, ink, pencil and printmaking, and we developed our skills in using these. I am really enjoying this project because it has been so diverse and we have tried so many new things.

Amber

Year 9

I have really enjoyed the chance to express myself through my own artwork with more freedom and not as many restrictions. The theme I have chosen is distortion but I am mostly looking at portraits and altered faces.

Evie

Year 10

I am a very creative person and my art GCSE allows me to develop this in my own way. I have chosen to work within the theme of ‘Wild’ and this has allowed me to experiment with lots of different materials and ideas. I have really enjoyed expressing my thoughts through my project. The subject is a lot of work and quite demanding but I really enjoy it.
