“Don’t listen to the person who has the answers; listen to the person who has the questions.” Albert Einstein.
Science at Boldon School captivates pupils with discovering and describing the world around us by observing and experimenting. By immersing ourselves in observations and experimental results it allows us to understand natural phenomena and make predictions about how things behave, whether they’re living things, chemical reactions or physical events.
We equip Boldon School pupils with skills that they can use throughout the whole curriculum with us, such as how to be able to use and apply investigative, observational, practical, modelling, enquiry, mathematical and analytical skills confidently, across a range of problems and scenarios, both academic and real-world. Boldon School pupils enjoy the practical and experimental nature of science lessons, engaging in exciting enquiry and learning transferable skills that instill curiosity in our pupils, and they can take with them to enrich future learning and employment, whether that be to university, or apprenticeships such as construction or hair and beauty.
Boldon School pupils are encouraged to apply their learning and get creative in many competitions throughout the year, such as the popular Chemistree competition. We also offer a bespoke and unique timetable in Boldon School science lessons, which encompasses both the fun Cognitive Acceleration through Science Education (CASE) experiences, and the extremely popular ‘Retrieval’ lessons.
The science faculty staff are richly varied in both academic and industrial experiences from disciplines in biology, chemistry, physics and sport, and are passionate about delivering, not only engaging lessons, but also extracurricular activities to support and challenge all pupils, whilst offering opportunities for further enquiry, learning and development. From events such as Zoolab, a Space Agency workshop and STEM-themed dance workshops to name only a few, the faculty are always striving to incorporate engaging, fun and exciting activities that pupils talk about for years to come.
