“Art speaks where words are unable to explain”
The art department at Boldon School aims to allow all students to become creators. We encourage students to produce work in lots of different ways; using different processes, techniques, materials and resources to generate different kinds of ideas and outcomes. We encourage creative and experimental thinking by covering a wide range of art disciplines and topic areas so that students receive an enriched and engaged learning experience.
Key transferable skills are integrated into the curriculum such as imagination, creativity and resourcefulness. As well as visual presentation, oral and written communication and research skills are also a solid foundation for many different study and employment opportunities.
Students will be introduced to a vast array of artists in order to broaden their understanding and awareness of the arts and many disciplines within it. Their portfolio becomes an extension of themselves, and students relish working at home on their art, borrowing equipment as needed. The faculty continues to be alive after school, with students working in the art rooms every night, for the joy of creating. We work with local artists to develop ours students understanding of job roles in the creative sector.
Our end of year show is a school highlight, where students from all years can display their work for parents and the local community.
